The Arab Group countries’ resolution on Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations was approved by the United Nations General Assembly on Friday with 143 positive votes.

This resolution gives Palestine special rights and privileges and asks the Security Council to favorably review Palestine’s request to become the 194th member of the United Nations.

Palestine is currently a non-member observer and has been trying to become a full member of this international body for years. This effort was vetoed by the United States in the UN Security Council last month.

Nevertheless, in its emergency meeting, the United Nations General Assembly reviewed the draft of this resolution, which does not give Palestine full membership, but gives Palestine more rights and privileges, such as joining various organizations and institutions of the United Nations, which Palestine is now able to do.

With the approval of this resolution, Palestine was recognized as a country eligible for full membership.

Spain, Malta and Slovenia also announced earlier that they intend to recognize the independent state of Palestine by May 21, 2024.
