Is London to blame for the Gaza crisis? / Members of the British Parliament: The government should clarify

PNN – A group of representatives of the British House of Commons sent a letter to “Hamish Falconer”, the deputy foreign minister of this country, demanding clarification about London’s role in the Gaza crisis.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, In this letter, a copy of which was published in the British media, the members of the group known as “Independent Alliance” of the British Parliament, while expressing concern about the possibility of London’s complicity in the crimes of the Zionist regime in Gaza, have asked the government to take its measures to prevent the occurrence of genocide. In this context, explain the possible use of the military bases of this country in the military operations of the Zionist regime.

The signatories of this letter have stated that the government has so far refused to provide clear answers to the questions raised about the definition of genocide and the role of the Akrotiri military base in the transfer of weapons for attacks in Gaza. They have emphasized that the lack of clarity about Britain’s role in the Gaza crisis has made public opinion more sensitive to London’s possible complicity in this crisis.

In their letter, the representatives demanded an explanation from the government about receiving legal advice on the definition of genocide, the role of the British military base in Cyprus in the transfer of weapons for attacks by the Zionist regime, and the number of American military flights from this base. They have also emphasized that any cooperation with a regime whose leaders are accused of war crimes is a clear violation of the UK’s international obligations.

British Deputy Foreign Minister Hamish Falconer spoke in response to these criticisms of the government’s role in supporting the Gaza ceasefire and sending humanitarian aid and claimed: We have been working since the first days of the Gaza crisis to help end the violence and reduce the suffering of the people. In this link, he announced the allocation of 112 million pounds to help the occupied Palestinian territories.

He further emphasized: The stereotyped and non-transparent response of the Deputy Foreign Minister to our initial request is extremely inadequate and he does not make any effort to answer the questions raised. We emphasize once again that we have the right to be aware of all aspects of the government’s participation and complicity in the genocide.

Since the start of the Zionist regime’s attacks on Gaza, more than 47,000 Palestinians, including thousands of children, have been martyred and hundreds of thousands have been displaced. Human rights institutions have described the situation of this barricade as a crime against humanity.

Meanwhile, the role of England, especially through the Akrotiri military base in Cyprus, has become one of the controversial issues. Some reports indicate that this base played a role in the transfer of American weapons to the Zionist regime.

The British Ministry of Defense has denied these reports and claimed that no flight to Israel (Occupied Palestine) was carrying deadly weapons. However, critics find this claim unacceptable and stress that the government needs to provide more transparency about the type of flights, cargo and their destinations.

Experts and human rights institutions warn that the continued lack of transparency of the British government regarding its role in the Gaza crisis could have serious legal and political consequences for this country.

They emphasize that instead of giving clichéd answers, the government should take serious and transparent measures to respond to public opinion and parliamentarians; otherwise, the accusation of complicity in genocide and war crimes can become one of the most serious human rights charges against this country.
