Is South Sudan Becoming the New Destination for Gaza Displacement Plans?
Itamar Eisner, a reporter for the Hebrew-language news site Ynet, revealed in a report on the matter that Israel is currently negotiating with five countries, including South Sudan, to accept Gaza residents who are to be relocated from the region.
In this regard, last week, the deputy foreign minister of South Sudan traveled to (occupied Palestine) to negotiate on this matter, while at the same time talks are underway with Indonesia, Libya, Ethiopia, and another African country to accept the residents of Gaza.
Citing a report by the Associated Press, the Hebrew-language media outlet stated that six different sources have confirmed the talks between Israel and South Sudan, but the level of progress in this regard has not yet been determined.
According to Ynet, however, there are uncertainties regarding the plan to transfer (relocation) residents of a region that has been torn apart by war and suffers from severe shortages of food and services to another country that has the same conditions, and raises concerns about the human rights conditions of this relocation.
Meanwhile, the Israeli Foreign Ministry refused to comment on the disclosure of this issue, while the South Sudanese Foreign Ministry did not respond to questions raised.
A US State Department spokesman told the Associated Press that it does not comment on private diplomatic talks, while Egypt is completely opposed to the displacement of Gazans.
However, Joe Slavic, founder of an American company operating in South Sudan, said he had received information from South Sudanese officials about such talks. He stressed that an Israeli delegation plans to travel to South Sudan to discuss the establishment of Palestinian camps on its territory, but a specific date for the trip has not yet been announced.
