Islamabad: World should be concerned about nuclear smuggling in India.
In a statement today (Thursday), the Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson said that the Indian Defense Minister’s irresponsible remarks reflect his deep disappointment in Pakistan’s effective defense and deterrence against recent Indian aggression through conventional means.
Shafqat Ali Khan said: The Indian Defense Minister’s remarks also show his utter ignorance of the duties and responsibilities of a specialized UN agency like the International Atomic Energy Agency.
He added: “In any case, the International Atomic Energy Agency and the international community should be concerned about the repeated thefts and incidents of illegal smuggling of nuclear and radioactive materials in India.”
Citing two incidents of detection of smuggled nuclear materials and a highly toxic radioactive substance called “californium” in India in 2021 and 2024, the Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson said: “These incidents also indicate the existence of a black market for sensitive and dual-use materials inside India.”
He stressed: Pakistan wants a full investigation into these incidents and asks India to ensure the safety and security of its nuclear facilities and arsenal.
According to IRNA, while only 6 days have passed since the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh today called for Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal to be placed under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
