Israel is concerned about Iran’s growing intelligence influence.
According to the Emirati news site Aram News, Tsefika Barut warned that “the Iranians have reached Bat Yam,” a phrase that reflects Tehran’s influence and Israeli officials’ fear of expanding Iranian intelligence influence inside the occupied territories.
The mayor of Bat Yam claimed that the Shin Bet had recorded several cases in recent weeks in which elements linked to Iran had contacted Israeli citizens, including reservists, students, and retirees.
According to the report, the Shin Bet claimed that these individuals had attempted to attract people with tempting financial offers or seemingly simple missions, such as delivering packages or gathering information.
The mayor of Bat Yam revealed that dozens of residents of the city currently have real connections with Iranian parties.
This apparent admission shows that Iran has been able to establish a network of direct communications inside the occupied Palestinian territories, an issue that has seriously challenged Tel Aviv’s security.
The mayor of Bat Yam warned: “These people are endangering Israel’s security and destroying their own personal future. These crimes are very serious, and anyone caught by the Shin Bet will face irreparable consequences.”
He urged anyone who has received suspicious messages or has been in contact with foreign parties to immediately contact local authorities and security agencies.
Barut considered the cooperation of Israelis to prevent the spread of Iranian influence vital, addressing them: “We are at a sensitive stage in terms of security and we are working to protect the city, but we need your cooperation so that the enemies cannot abuse domestic support, even if it is unintentional.”
