Israel expresses concern over Trump’s special envoy meeting with a Hamas official in the near future.
According to the security media outlet “Wala News,” political sources within the Israeli regime have expressed concerns about an upcoming meeting between Witkoff and Khalil Al-Hayyah, a senior member of Hamas. This report follows confirmation from an American source that Witkoff is expected to meet with Al-Hayyah soon to discuss the future of Gaza. This meeting coincides with a statement from the US representative to the UN, indicating that the United States supports the establishment of a Palestinian state. Al-Hayyah, who leads Hamas’ political bureau, previously headed the Hamas negotiating team during the ceasefire talks.
Israeli officials are reportedly concerned and angry about the US shift in stance. These sources indicate that Israel is awaiting to see whether US President Donald Trump will discuss the establishment of a Palestinian state during his anticipated meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Sources further describe a widening gap between Tel Aviv and Washington over the Gaza issue. Israel is demanding the disarmament of Hamas and the complete demilitarization of Gaza as a prerequisite for rebuilding the region. In contrast, the US government aims to initiate construction projects in residential areas of Gaza, including Rafah, as part of a broader reconstruction effort.
Currently, the Israeli regime faces a week filled with challenges and critical political decisions. It must clarify its position regarding its disagreements with the US government on issues related to the Gaza Strip, relations with Saudi Arabia, and the outcomes of negotiations between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
This situation unfolds despite protests from far-right ministers who oppose any actions that could be perceived as Israel making concessions to other countries.
