Israel seeks to revive diplomatic relations with Bolivia amid global isolation.
The Jerusalem Post reported that Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar congratulated Bolivian President-elect Rodrigo Paz on his victory in a telephone conversation and stressed that Israel intends to open a “new chapter” in bilateral relations with the country after two decades of tense relations.
In the telephone conversation, the Israeli Foreign Minister announced that, to start good relations and after Paz’s official invitation, he will send an official representative to his inauguration.
Reports indicate that the Bolivian President-elect also stated that he intends to take steps to resume bilateral relations with the Israeli regime, and responded positively to Gideon Sa’ar’s proposal and announced that he is seeking to change Bolivia’s course and open a “new chapter” in relations with the Israeli regime and the United States. He added that he intends to expand the country’s relations with the world.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry welcomed Paz’s remarks, describing them as an important step towards restoring relations with a key Latin American country. Diplomatic sources in the regime estimated that Paz’s inauguration would mark the beginning of a gradual process of restoring relations, including the return of ambassadors and the reopening of embassies.
The Jerusalem Post wrote in this regard that after two decades of rule by the leftist Movement to Socialism party led by current President Luis Arce and former President Evo Morales (2006-2019), Bolivia’s people have now elected a new president, marking a major shift in the country’s foreign policy.
