Israel unveils “Iron Beam” laser system.
According to Yedioth Aharonot, in the latest step in its increasing belligerence in the region, the Zionist regime delivered the first operational laser system called “IRON BEAM” to the regime’s army during an official ceremony attended by security and military officials; a system that Tel Aviv introduces as a “revolution in air defense,” but is in fact part of a broader project to recreate military technologies to escalate tensions in the region and send a threatening message to the axis of resistance.
The ceremony, which was held at the Rafael Arms Industries facility, was attended by Defense Minister Israel Katz, Defense Ministry Director General Amir Baram, Defense Ministry Director General Danny Gold, Air Force Commander Tomer Bar, Rafael CEO Yuval Steinitz, Rafael CEO Yoav Turgeman, and a group of military commanders and designers. This level of involvement demonstrates the strategic importance of the project, which Israel calls “the world’s first operational laser system for intercepting aerial threats.”
According to the report, the “Or Eitan” system has now entered the army’s operational cycle after a series of extensive tests that included intercepting rockets, mortars, and drones. Israeli Defense Ministry officials claim that the system, using an “advanced laser source and a special electro-optical targeting system,” is capable of destroying a variety of targets with high accuracy and at “almost zero” cost; an issue that Tel Aviv describes as an “unprecedented economic and operational advantage.”
The system is named after Eitan Oster, an Israeli soldier killed in southern Lebanon, and his father was one of the project engineers and was present at the system’s delivery ceremony.
The Israeli Defense Minister, in a clearly threatening tone, declared that the system would “change the threat equation” and that its message would be heard “in Tehran, Sanaa, and Beirut.” This tone once again reveals the bellicose nature of a regime that uses the development of military technologies not for defense but to expand its threats in the region.
Amir Bar’am, the director general of the Defense Ministry, also claimed that the “Ur Eitan” is only the first example of a series of systems that are being produced, and that subsequent generations will be developed on the ground and in the air. He also referred to the “improvement of the economic equation”; This is an issue that Israel has been struggling with for years, because in addition to the fact that the Iron Dome system and other systems have been very ineffective in various wars, intercepting each rocket with current systems has cost a very high cost of about $50,000, and this has led Israel to turn to laser technologies, the cost of each shot of which, according to security officials, is only a few dollars.
