US President Donald Trump announced in new statements last night that negotiations on the situation in the Gaza Strip are nearing their final stages. He said: We are close to a deal on Gaza.
Trump announced the high possibility of reaching an agreement with the Hamas movement to release a large number of Zionist prisoners, adding: There is a great chance that we will reach an agreement with Hamas to release a large number of prisoners.
This comes while two informed Palestinian sources emphasized in an interview with Reuters that the first round of ceasefire negotiations, which were held indirectly between Tel Aviv and the Hamas movement in Doha, ended without any tangible results or progress.
This round of negotiations, prior to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to the United States, is the third since Trump returned to power in the country.
The Hamas movement had previously initially responded positively to Qatar’s proposal for a 60-day ceasefire and the release of 10 Israeli prisoners and the handover of the bodies of 18 other prisoners in exchange for the withdrawal of Israeli forces to the buffer zone on the Gaza border and the widespread transfer of humanitarian aid to the strip.
