Israeli Army Chief of Staff: Our doctrine towards Hamas was wrong.

According to Sama News Agency, Eyal Zamir attacked the political levels of the Israeli army during the internal assessment document after the investigation into the causes of Tel Aviv’s surprise on October 7, 2023, and said: The army has accepted responsibility for its role in this defeat and has conducted an internal investigation, but this incident is not unique to the army and the army is not the only party to be blamed.

He added: The security doctrine regarding the Gaza Strip in the years before the October 7, 2023 disaster must be examined.

Zamir stated: During the years leading up to the October 7 disaster, a doctrine was formed that focused on containing Hamas to give Israel a period of calm on the southern front and to be able to focus on the other fronts.

He said: This doctrine of mistaken containment enabled Hamas to create a large military force. This doctrine failed to assess Hamas’ intentions.

The Chief of Staff of the Israeli Army added: The containment doctrine was based on the assumption that Hamas was ‘contained, eroded and under intelligence control,’ but October 7 proved otherwise.

According to IRNA, on October 7, 2023, after being surprised by Palestinian resistance, the Zionist regime launched a war against the Gaza Strip with two main goals: to destroy the Hamas movement and return the Zionist prisoners from this region, but it failed to achieve these goals and was forced to reach an agreement with the Hamas movement to exchange prisoners.

On Thursday, October 7, the Hamas movement issued a statement officially announcing the achievement of an agreement to end the war in the Gaza Strip and exchange prisoners.

On Friday afternoon, October 8, the Israeli army officially announced the implementation of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and announced: According to the agreement, Israeli forces will remain stationed in certain areas of the Gaza Strip and travel from the south to the north of the Gaza Strip will be allowed via Al-Rashid Street and Salahuddin Road.
