Israeli Cabinet Attorney Opposes Shutting Down Army Radio.
According to the Zionist website “Kipa”, Gali Bharao Meara called the order of Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz to close the army radio station illegal and a violation of freedom of expression.
The proposed bill is scheduled to be voted on in the Knesset (Israeli parliament) session today.
Rejecting the bill, Gali Bharao claimed that this decision is part of a comprehensive measure to restrict freedom of expression that does not have the necessary professional infrastructure to support its replacement.
These developments come at a time when Katz announced the closure of the military radio station last month under the pretext of the recommendation of special experts monitoring this media at the Ministry of Defense.
According to the report, he intends to issue an order to end the broadcast of this radio station by March 1, 2026 (March 10) and form a professional team of special experts at the Ministry of Defense to lead the implementation of this decision.
The Minister of War had previously claimed that the radio station had become a platform for military commanders and officials to express opinions against the army, and that the continuation of the radio station’s activities would involve the Ministry of War in political issues and seriously damage its standing.
He also claimed that the military had complained that the radio station’s programs criticized Israel’s war in Gaza.
In response to such a claim, Tal Lev Ram, one of the senior commanders of the Israeli army, said that they were extremely surprised by the Minister of War’s order.
While seriously criticizing the Minister of War, he said that he would work to continue the activities of the Israeli Army Radio.
Meanwhile, the Israeli Journalists’ Organization also announced that it would work to continue the activities of the radio station.
