Israeli Opposition Leader: Netanyahu Is Blocking the Path to an Agreement.
According to Al Jazeera, Yair Lapid announced that Netanyahu is obstructing the process of reaching an agreement in Gaza.
He emphasized: Netanyahu considers our presence on the Morag axis (between Khan Yunis and Rafah) to be the cornerstone of Israel’s survival, despite the fact that this action was an operational step on the ground.
Lapid added: I hope that Netanyahu’s meeting yesterday (Tuesday) with US President Donald Trump will lead to a prisoner exchange agreement, because Washington cares about this and now war is of no use to Israel.
The head of the Zionist opposition added: Until we find someone to govern the Gaza Strip, we will not be free from Hamas. Now we must leave Gaza and establish ourselves in the buffer zone to ensure the security of the areas adjacent to Gaza.
This news comes as the fifth round of indirect talks between the Zionist regime and Hamas ended on Tuesday night without any progress.
Meanwhile, a Palestinian official in an interview with Saudi Arabia’s Al-Sharq TV channel blamed the Israeli regime for the failure of the talks.
Al-Sharq TV channel, citing unnamed informed sources, added: “The fifth round of indirect talks between the Israeli regime and Hamas in Qatar on a possible ceasefire agreement in Gaza and a prisoner exchange ended without any significant progress.”
The Saudi channel also continued, quoting a Palestinian official: “Things have reached a deadlock and the Israeli negotiating team, instead of negotiating, has only listened and has made negotiations on any issue subject to consultation with Israeli officials.”
The Palestinian official said that the Israeli negotiating team lacks the authority to make decisions and that this is a continuation of the policy of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to stall for time to prevent any possible agreement.
The Gaza ceasefire talks resumed in Doha, the capital of Qatar, on Sunday this week, ahead of the meeting between the Israeli Prime Minister and the US President, which took place at the White House on Monday.
The negotiations were put on the agenda after the Hamas movement announced on Friday night that it had provided a positive response to the mediating countries regarding the ceasefire plan.
