Japanese officials warn Trump about the dangers of using nuclear weapons in the world.
According to Japan’s NHK news network, Nagasaki Mayor Suzuki Shiro and Hiroshima Mayor Matsui Kazumi sent a joint letter to Trump inviting him to visit the two cities that were the targets of Washington’s atomic bombings decades ago during his visit to Japan.
Washington and Tokyo are considering and planning Trump’s visit to Japan ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit scheduled to be held in South Korea later this month.
In the letter sent yesterday, both Japanese mayors warned Trump about the danger of nuclear weapons being used in the world.
The two mayors wrote in their letter that the danger of nuclear weapons being used has increased again 80 years after the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. They urged Trump to listen to the voices of survivors (of this human catastrophe that the United States caused) and to take the inhuman consequences of these attacks seriously.
According to IRNA, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, which is scheduled to be held from October 31 to November 1, 2021, in the southeastern city of Gyeongju, South Korea, is generating much speculation about Trump’s possible visit to the region, including a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
This comes as Trump has already ruled out meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the summit.
Trump announced on Friday night (local time) that there was “no reason” to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping during his trip to South Korea because China has restricted the export of rare earth elements needed by American industries.
