Protesters in the city of Tokyo condemned the action of the American soldier, declaring that his sexual violence was intolerable and that five years in prison was too little compared to the suffering the victim endured.

They also criticized the central government and the Japanese police for failing to provide information related to the case to the Okinawa state government. The protesters demanded the accountability of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan due to the secrecy in the details of this case.

Criminal activity in Japan involving US military personnel is a long-standing problem. According to Okinawa prefecture statistics, nearly 6,200 crime cases involving US military personnel and their dependents have been registered in the prefecture from 1972 to 2023, including serious crimes such as murder, rape and robbery.
