Jolani: Damascus does not want war / Israel should withdraw from Syrian territory.
Ahmed al-Shara, known as Abu Muhammad al-Julani, who calls himself the interim president of Syria, announced in an interview with the CBS News program “60 Minutes” that the cost of rebuilding the damage caused by the past war is estimated to be between $600 and $900 billion, and that this reconstruction is not possible without global assistance.
Criticizing the international community’s performance in recent years and its efforts to blame the former Syrian regime, he said: “The world watched this disaster for 14 years and was unable to stop this great crime, so today it must play a role in rebuilding Syria.”
Golani continued by considering international economic sanctions against Syria as one of the main obstacles to the country’s reconstruction, and stated: “Anyone who prevents the lifting of these sanctions is complicit in the events of the past.”
In an effort to divert world attention from the unrest in Syria in recent years as a result of the illegal actions of the group under his command, he said: “The Syrian government will use legal channels to pursue the case of Bashar al-Assad, who fled to Russia.”
Regarding the developments in the coastal areas and Sweida province, Golani also said that these issues will be resolved within the framework of the law and internally, and all those who have committed crimes against civilians, regardless of their side, will be tried.
Regarding the repeated attacks by the Zionist regime on Syrian soil, he also stated: “Since our establishment in Damascus, Syria has never provoked Israel and has no intention of threatening any party or country. Targeting the presidential palace was an act of war, but we have no desire to enter into war.”
He continued by calling for the Zionist regime to withdraw from all areas it has occupied since December 8.
In another part of his speech about the armed groups in northern Syria, Al-Sharaa also said that the operations of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham before the liberation of the areas were only carried out against the former regime and that it had not carried out any foreign actions.
