Jordanian King: We will not send any military forces to Gaza.
In an interview with the BBC, Abdullah II announced that Jordan does not intend to send any troops to the Gaza Strip, but is ready to cooperate in close coordination with Egypt to train Palestinian security forces and support the local police structure in the region.
He explained that this process takes time and that any military or armed role in Gaza is not a situation that any country wants to get involved in.
Abdullah II emphasized that Jordan is politically very close to the developments in Gaza and is actively involved in related diplomatic efforts.
He added that Amman and Cairo are coordinating to train about 5,000 Palestinian police forces to be deployed in Gaza after the ceasefire is established and fill the security vacuum in the region. According to the plan, these forces are to be gradually supported and equipped so that they can establish order and stability in Gaza.
The Jordanian king added that this process must be carried out within the framework of a single Palestinian state so that the administration of Gaza can be carried out sustainably and legitimately.
Abdullah II expressed hope that the Hamas movement’s commitment to withdraw from a direct political role in the administration of Gaza would be realized with the cooperation of Qatari and Egyptian mediators.
He considered this an important factor on the path to achieving stability and ending internal conflicts.
