PNN – The Israeli parliament has sparked a wave of concerns and reactions domestically and internationally by approving a controversial bill on the execution of Palestinian prisoners.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network; The Israeli parliament (Knesset) approved a bill on Monday evening that would allow the execution of Palestinian prisoners.

According to the Shehab news agency, the bill was proposed by Itamar Ben-Gwer, the extremist Minister of Internal Security of the Israeli regime.

According to Hebrew media reports, the bill was approved in the final stages of voting. The Shas party supported it, while some representatives of the Jewish Home party opposed it. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also voted in favor of the bill.

The bill was previously submitted by the right-wing Jewish Power party led by Ben-Gwer and passed its first reading in November. Last week, the Knesset Internal Security Committee, after making amendments, sent it back to the floor for final approval.

According to the published details, the law foresees the execution of the death penalty and the period of execution of the sentence after the final verdict is set at a maximum of 90 days.

The Palestinian Prisoners’ Studies Center has announced that about 220 prisoners are at risk of being executed by this law, of which 118 have been sentenced to life imprisonment or long-term sentences; a significant part of these people are also residents of Gaza.

Following this action, institutions related to prisoner affairs have called for the immediate intervention of the international community and announced that they have referred the matter to the United Nations and human rights institutions.

These institutions have warned that the implementation of such a law could have dangerous consequences and is the culmination of a process of escalating measures against Palestinian prisoners.
