Lavrov: Brazil, India and African countries should become permanent members of the Security Council

PNN – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced his country’s support for the permanent membership of Brazil, India and African countries in the UN Security Council.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network from TASS, in an interview with AIF, Sergey Lavrov emphasized that the permanent membership of Brazil, India and African countries in the UN Security Council guarantees the presence of the majority of representatives of the world community.

Sergei Vershinin, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, also stated earlier that Moscow considers it important and necessary to reach a consensus for the reform of the UN Security Council.

He admitted that the expansion of the central body of this world organization at the expense of NATO countries and the European Union is unacceptable.

Sergey Lavrov announced in a conference that was held earlier in Moscow that two aspects are important in the reform of the United Nations. Conceptually, we are convinced that the UN Charter contains all the principles necessary for peace and security. But only the United States of America ignores these principles.

The Russian Foreign Minister stated that the UN Charter should remain the basis of actions for world peace and security, and the principles should be fully applied.

He continued: The second aspect of the UN reforms is practical, in the sense that we need to reform the Security Council; this issue is now in the spotlight and many countries in the world are trying to make this happen.

Lavrov said: Reforms in the UN Security Council should eliminate historical injustice and this council should represent the majority of countries in the world.
