Lebanese President: Israel’s ongoing aggression aims to thwart de-escalation efforts.
According to Al-Mayadeen News Network, Joseph Aoun said: Israeli aggressions on the eve of the meeting of the ceasefire monitoring committee in Lebanon, known as the “Mechanism” committee, have many ambiguities and question marks.
He added: The continuation of Israeli aggressions is aimed at defeating all domestic, regional, and international efforts to stop tensions.
Aoun added: Despite Lebanon’s support and welcome of efforts to stop tensions at all levels, the Zionist regime’s aggressions continue.
The Lebanese President continued: Once again, we call on the international community to intervene effectively and put an end to Israeli aggressions. Once again, we call for the Mechanism Committee to be provided so that this committee can carry out its missions within the framework of agreements with the relevant parties and international support.
This news comes as the Zionist regime once again carried out two airstrikes on the Ain al-Hilweh camp in southern Lebanon on Monday night. The regime’s army had also carried out several attacks in the south of the country a few hours earlier.
These measures are being taken at a time when the security situation in southern Lebanon remains unstable, and frequent airspace violations and sporadic attacks have raised concerns about escalating tensions in the region.
More than a year has passed since the agreement that was supposed to halt the war against Lebanon was signed by the Zionist regime; however, the reality on the ground has been nothing but the continuation of the regime’s attacks against Lebanon’s territorial integrity, with thousands of violations of the agreement.
Despite its daily aggression against southern Lebanon, the Zionist regime, with the support of the United States and by pressuring Beirut, is seeking to advance the plan to disarm the country’s Islamic resistance.
News sources previously reported that the next meeting of the ceasefire monitoring committee in Lebanon will be held on January 7, 2026.
The last round of the ceasefire monitoring committee meeting was held on December 4 of this year, with the presence of US envoy Morgan Ortagus, the Lebanese military technical delegation headed by Simon Karam, representatives of France and the US, and the Israeli delegation, with the participation of the UN peacekeeping forces (UNIFIL), in the Ras al-Naqoura region on the Lebanese border with occupied Palestine.
