PNN – While emphasizing the need for the Zionist occupiers to withdraw from the country, Nawaf Salam considered normalization with the Zionists unlikely under the current circumstances, and said that Tel Aviv must adhere to the 2002 Arab Peace Plan.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network, quoting Al-Mayadeen, Nawaf Salam, the Prime Minister of Lebanon, in remarks after the meeting of the committee supervising the implementation of the ceasefire agreement in Ras al-Naqoura, announced that in light of discussions regarding the future of the mission of the international forces (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon, he will discuss the proposed options with the members of the UN Security Council this week.
Nawaf Salam said in press statements: the disarmament plan in Lebanon cannot be completed unless Tel Aviv withdraws from the Lebanese territories that are still under the occupation of this regime, and this withdrawal is an essential condition for restoring stability.

He added: Lebanon is ready to discuss the concerns of the American and French forces regarding the remaining Hezbollah weapons depots in southern Lebanon, within the defined frameworks.
The Lebanese official stated: we hope that the participation of civilians in the mechanism committee (supervising the implementation of the ceasefire) will help reduce tensions and create stability.
The Prime Minister of Lebanon also emphasized regarding the process of normalizing relations with the Zionist regime that economic negotiations will be part of any possible normalization with Tel Aviv, but before reaching a formal agreement, peace will not be achieved.
He stated: if Tel Aviv adheres to the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative, normalization of relations will also take place afterward, but at present we are still far from this agreement.
Nawaf Salam said: Lebanon is committed to its national and sovereign rights and supports any Arab or international initiative based on international laws and the principles of justice and equality in resolving the conflict.
He noted that we are grateful for Egypt’s mediation in calming tensions, and we emphasize the importance of diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation and to preserve stability in southern Lebanon.
The Lebanese presidency appointed Simon Karam, a Lebanese lawyer and former ambassador of the country to the United States, as the head of the Lebanese delegation in the sessions of the committee supervising the ceasefire. He participated yesterday as the first Lebanese civilian representative in the meeting of the mechanism committee.
Nawaf Salam’s remarks regarding the prospect of normalizing relations with the Zionist regime and reaching a new agreement with this regime come while the Zionists, for more than a year since the ceasefire agreement on the Lebanese front was concluded, have shown no commitment to this agreement, and the violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty in various ways and aggression against the citizens of this country continues, and hardly a day passes without news of the martyrdom of several Lebanese citizens in the attacks of the occupiers.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese government, led by Nawaf Salam, is counting on American initiatives that give the green light to the Zionists’ aggressions against Lebanon, and by insisting on the disarmament of Hezbollah, is in fact seeking to empty Lebanon of its elements of strength and to implement a scenario similar to the Syrian scenario against the Lebanese people.
