Lebanon’s political activity remains high amid ongoing diplomatic talks.
According to Al Arabi TV, Lebanon is currently the scene of a wide-ranging diplomatic agenda, especially since the army has announced that the first phase of the arms embargo in the southern Litani region will be completed by the end of the year, and then the second phase will begin north of the Litani River.
In this regard, the Lebanese Prime Minister emphasized that the first phase of the arms embargo plan in the hands of the army forces south of the Litani River will be completed in the next few days, and the Lebanese government is ready to enter the second phase of this plan north of the river.
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam stated in a meeting with Simon Karam, head of the negotiating team in the Mechanism Committee (Ceasefire Monitoring Committee), that the first phase of the arms embargo plan south of the Litani River is about to end.
Al Arabi TV reporter Mohammed Shabaro said in a report on this matter: Lebanon has witnessed diplomatic and political traffic these days and has hosted officials from various countries.
He said: According to the announcement of the Lebanese Army, the first phase of the arms embargo in the southern Litani River will be finalized by the end of this year.
According to Chebarou, this is while a few days ago the French Foreign Minister spoke of a second solution to the issue of Hezbollah’s weapons without mentioning the content or further details in this regard. On the other hand, the European Union linked the stability of Lebanon, especially the south of the country, to the cessation of Israeli aggression and Hezbollah’s positions on opposing disarmament.
Chebarou continued his report by adding: In the remaining days until the end of this year, Lebanon will continue to be the scene of extensive diplomatic dialogue, especially since Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to meet and talk with Donald Trump before the end of this year.
Meanwhile, the United States, by sending special representatives and applying diplomatic pressure, has demanded the deployment of the Lebanese army in the south of the Litani to replace the resistance forces. Washington’s goal in this action is considered to be weakening Hezbollah and ensuring the security of northern occupied Palestine.
The talk of finalizing the first phase of the arms embargo south of the Litani River comes at a time when the Litani River in southern Lebanon has long been known as a symbolic border line in security agreements between Lebanon and the Israeli regime, and Israeli sources have emphasized that the United States has called for the rapid deployment of the Lebanese army south of the Litani River to replace Hezbollah’s presence in the area. This issue has been one of the main axes of the ceasefire negotiations between the two sides and remains a point of contention.
