Local sources describe the chaos in Sweida; thousands are displaced, and bodies are lying in the streets.
Although last night, Wednesday night, Syrian sources announced the beginning of the withdrawal of armed elements affiliated with the Abu Muhammad al-Julani government from the Druze-populated province of Sweida in the south of the country, Sweida has faced a humanitarian catastrophe amid the siege and violent clashes, and local sources report that the Golani government refuses to open the safe gates that allow civilians to escape the fighting and shooting.
Inhumane situation in Sweida and disruption of basic services
The suffering of civilians in the city of Sweida and its suburbs in southern Syria continues with clashes between local groups on the one hand and armed elements affiliated with the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Defense, as well as tribal groups on the other, and a completely chaotic and tense situation has been created in this city, and the traces of the street fighting this morning are visible in the neighborhoods and villages of Sweida.
Also, despite the ceasefire, civilians remain fearful and insecure, and access to safe areas is severely restricted. The entry of Golani elements into Sweida and the subsequent violent clashes in recent days have displaced a large number of residents of the province, but about a quarter of the population has remained in their homes, hoping to return to normal life.
Those who have remained in their homes report that most services have been cut off in recent days and that there are no safe humanitarian routes out of Sweida.
