London: Protest targets UAE embassy over Arab-Israeli normalization.
A number of protesters gathered in front of the UAE embassy in London, covering the official sign of the diplomatic mission and installing a sign titled “Arab Zionists United” in English and Hebrew.
Palestinian supporters also placed symbolic objects, including packages resembling the bodies of babies wrapped in shrouds, at the site, holding placards with themes against supporting crimes in Gaza and Sudan. Images of this action were quickly reposted on social media and received widespread response among pro-Palestinian users.
The protest follows growing dissatisfaction with the normalization of relations between some Arab countries and the Zionist regime; a process that began in 2020 with the signing of the so-called “Abraham” agreements between the UAE, Bahrain, and the Zionist regime, and was later joined by Morocco and Sudan.
As the Gaza war continues and the number of civilian casualties increases, criticism of governments that have maintained or strengthened their relations with the Zionist regime has intensified. In recent months, the UAE has also been the target of protest and boycott campaigns in some European capitals due to what is called the country’s role in the developments in Sudan and its support for the “rapid reaction” forces.
According to reports from international organizations, the civil war in Sudan, which began in April 2023, has so far killed tens of thousands of people and displaced millions, creating one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises. In London, several rallies and protest actions have been held in recent months to condemn the war in Gaza and the role of regional actors in the crises in the Middle East and Africa.
As of the time of writing, the UAE Embassy in London and the British police have not issued an official response to this protest action.
