PNN – The Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry of Malaysia announced: This country is seriously and actively seeking the support of BRICS member countries for Malaysia to join this economic alliance.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network, Bernama news agency, Liu Chin Tong added: Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohammad Hassan has sent an official letter to his nine counterparts in the BRICS group and confirmed Malaysia’s intention to join the alliance.
He said that Malaysia’s desire to join BRICS is in harmony with the position of this country as an independent country committed to opening up in international cooperation and further strengthens the policy of neutrality and multilateralism of BRICS.
Liu noted: BRICS members such as Brazil, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates also follow a foreign policy of neutrality.

He rejected the criticism that Malaysia’s request to join BRICS could harm the country’s economic relations with Western countries and continued that this year we welcomed the investments of Western giants such as Google, Oracle and Amazon.
Liu added: This shows that our neutral position is recognized by Western companies and accepted by all parties.
He added that Malaysia’s membership in BRICS will complement the country’s role in regional and international economic groups including ASEAN, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Liu noted that Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has announced his country’s desire to join the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) as part of a broader effort to maintain strong relations with all trading partners.
Liu added: In addition, in line with Malaysia’s commitment to promote the agenda of the global south, participation in BRICS provides a platform to address the specific issues and challenges facing the countries of the global south.
