PNN – More than 1,000 employees at the US State Department have been laid off as part of the government’s efforts to reduce the federal workforce.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing Reuters, more than 1,000 employees of the State Department have been laid off as part of the efforts of US President Donald Trump’s administration to downsize the government.

This layoff includes 1,107 employees in the civil service and 246 employees in the Foreign Service.

Previously, more than 1,500 employees of the US State Department voluntarily left the department and retrenched themselves earlier this year as part of the government’s reorganization efforts.

Critics believe that the massive reduction in the workforce is hurting the ministry’s performance. Previously, following the recent deadly flooding in Texas that claimed more than 100 lives, critics have described the staffing cuts at the US National Weather Service as detrimental to the organization, which has weakened its performance and subsequently failed to issue timely warnings before natural disasters.
