Massive manpower vacuum in US airport control towers.
According to Reuters, a survey shows that 90 percent of US airports are facing a problem with staffing in their control towers.
In the incident where a military helicopter collided with a passenger plane, which killed 67 people, it was said that one person was responsible for controlling the helicopter and the plane in the control tower at Washington airport, while this responsibility should have been assigned to two people.
According to the report, less than 10 percent of airport control towers have the standard number of staff.
The report indicates that, excluding the personnel in training, only 2 percent of airports have sufficient trained personnel in the control tower.
