Mastermind of attack on Chinese engineers killed in Karachi security operation.
Pakistani officials reported that the country’s counter-terrorism special forces, in collaboration with intelligence agencies, carried out an operation in the “Mangopir” area of Karachi city, which resulted in the killing of three members of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) group.
One of the people killed in the operation was identified as “Zafran”, who is known to be the mastermind of an armed attack in November 2024, in which two Chinese engineers were injured at a factory in the “Site” area of Karachi.
According to local media reports, including the “Dawn News” newspaper, the operation was planned and carried out to neutralize terrorist threats against foreign citizens and projects, especially Chinese nationals and interests.
“Raja Umar”, a senior official of Pakistan’s Counter-Terrorism Department, announced that joint security teams raided a house in the “Mangopir” area and, during the exchange of fire, three members of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were killed, including Zafran.
The Pakistani government had previously launched a wide-ranging investigation and pledged to ensure the safety of foreign investors, especially Chinese, following an attack on Chinese nationals last November. The attack was carried out by a security guard who then fled, and speculation had focused from the start on a targeted terrorist plot.
