McMaster: Months leading up to Trump’s inauguration are crucial for Ukraine.
According to Anadolu Agency, H.R. McMaster, the US national security adviser during Donald Trump’s first term, says that the months leading up to Trump’s inauguration are crucial in determining the next phase of the Russia-Ukraine war.
Regarding expectations from the new Trump administration, other countries’ intervention in the war, and possible changes in US foreign policy, McMaster said: “I think what has happened is that many people are superficial about Ukraine and have a misunderstanding and misperception about (Vladimir) Putin’s intentions and how important the current war is to our interests around the world.”
Referring to the claim that North Korean soldiers were involved in the war in Ukraine and fighting on the Russian front in the first major war in Europe since World War II, the senior official in the first Trump administration claimed that China was trying to strengthen the Russian war machine and continued to repeat false claims about Iran supplying missiles and drones to Russia. Both Tehran and Russia have denied this claim. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently stressed that Iran has not yet provided Russia with missiles.
According to McMaster, Trump’s selection of key figures for his second administration, including Marco Rubio and J.D. Vance, who are not very supportive of Ukraine, will also inflict another psychological blow on Ukrainians.
He added: “This means that politics in Ukraine has entered a critical juncture and, based on personal experience, Trump will listen to the advice and teachings of those around him.”
