Middle East Eye: Lasting peace in Gaza not possible without ending occupation.
The English website “Middle East Eye” wrote in a report by “Azzam Tamimi”, referring to the announcement of a ceasefire in Gaza, that “lasting peace is not possible without an end to the occupation.”
The news outlet added: “On Thursday morning, good news came from Egypt, which was that an agreement had been reached to end the Israeli genocide in Gaza. The Hamas leadership would never agree to such an agreement unless it contained tangible benefits for the Palestinian people.”
Middle East Eye wrote: “Although the details of the talks have not been announced, it seems that the Hamas negotiating team focused on four main axes: the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, the exchange of prisoners, the entry of humanitarian aid, and the determination of a timetable for reconstruction.”
According to the report, the most important achievement of this agreement is the defeat of Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan to destroy the resistance and forcibly evacuate Gaza; a plan that was pursued with the support of the extremist faction known as “religious Zionism.” Two years of genocide have exposed Israel’s true face to the world, and Zionism has been seen more than ever as a hegemonic and colonialist project.
Middle East Eye wrote: Israel’s top leaders, including Netanyahu, are now being prosecuted in international courts for war crimes; crimes that will never be forgotten or forgiven.
The English-language media outlet emphasized: Achieving a ceasefire does not mean the end of Palestinian suffering. Freedom is the ultimate goal of the Palestinian people, and lasting peace will not be achieved until the occupation is completely ended. How can we talk about peace when the people of Gaza are locked in an open-air prison and the residents of the West Bank are daily victims of settler attacks that usurp their lands and burn their olive trees?
Middle East Eye wrote about peace from Hamas’ perspective: “A complete Israeli withdrawal from the territories occupied in 1967, the evacuation of all settlements, and the release of all Palestinian prisoners are Hamas’s conditions for achieving a lasting peace, and anything less would be a sign of Israel’s lack of seriousness in peace.”
The news outlet added: “Although Hamas has been weakened by two years of war, it has not disappeared, because resistance is not just a group, but a living idea.”
