PNN – The editor of the British publication warned the US president about any escalation against Iran, writing: Trump should take the lessons of history seriously before he commits what may be the most costly mistake of his foreign policy.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, prominent British journalist David Hirst wrote in an article referring to the escalation of US tensions against Iran that: US President Donald Trump should read history before making what may be the most costly foreign policy mistake of his presidency.

The editor of “Middle East Eye” writes that Trump is facing serious problems at home, from the shootings of immigration agents in Minnesota to the increase in inflation caused by his tariffs, but in the international arena he still sees himself at the peak of power.

Hearst wrote that now Trump has threatened Iran and believes he can do the same thing to Iran as he did to Venezuela, but in this idea, he is fundamentally wrong; although he himself deeply believes in it.

Middle East Eye editor writes that Trump’s special envoy, Steve Whittkoff, and Jared Kushner, the US President’s son-in-law, have told one of the regional powers what Trump has planned for Iran: A quick, limited airstrike to target the leaders, without completely overthrowing the regime. Then an agreement in which Iran completely shuts down its uranium enrichment program, sells its oil only to the United States, and in return, Boeing is allowed back into the Iranian market.

According to the report, Trump believes now is the right time to strike. He believes the Islamic Republic of Iran has been severely weakened by recent protests and after last year’s airstrikes; its main enrichment facilities are buried under mountains; and Iran has failed to rebuild its stockpiles.

Hearst wrote that Trump and Netanyahu are intoxicated by their recent military successes and believe they have no limits, but Iran is not Venezuela.

The author, enumerating Iran’s military capabilities, wrote that an attack on Iran is not just another military adventure, but could also spark a third Persian Gulf War; a war whose costs for the United States, the region, and the world would be much heavier than Trump imagined.

The Middle East Eye editor concluded: History is full of powers that thought they could bring a nation to its knees with a single swift blow; and they failed every time. Trump should take these historical lessons seriously before he makes what could be the most costly foreign policy mistake of his career.
