Modi’s Trip: Decoding the Diplomacy of Visits to Jordan, Oman, and Ethiopia.
According to Asia News International (ANI), Modi will be in Amman from December 15 to 18 at the invitation of King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein of Jordan. He will meet senior officials of the country and review all aspects of India-Jordan bilateral relations as well as regional developments. The visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and is expected to give new impetus to bilateral relations. He will also meet members of the Indian community in Jordan.
In a statement before his departure, the Indian Prime Minister said: India enjoys ancient civilizational ties with Jordan, Ethiopia, and Oman, and extensive contemporary relations, and this visit will be an opportunity to deepen these relations.
In the second leg, Modi will visit Ethiopia for the first time from December 16-17 and will hold talks with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali in Addis Ababa on all areas of bilateral cooperation. Addis Ababa is also the headquarters of the African Union and the visit is seen as part of strengthening the role of the Global South. In addition to meeting the Indian community in Ethiopia, the Indian Prime Minister will also address a joint session of the country’s parliament.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs said that the visit reflects the joint commitment of New Delhi and Addis Ababa to expand cooperation as partners of the Global South.
In the final leg of the tour, the Indian Prime Minister will visit the country from December 17-18 at the invitation of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman. This is Modi’s second official visit to Oman. In Muscat, he will hold talks with the Sultan of Oman on strengthening the strategic partnership and expanding trade and economic ties and will also address the Indian community in the country.
According to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, the relationship between New Delhi and Muscat is based on a comprehensive strategic partnership and historical, commercial, and people-to-people ties. The visit coincides with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and follows the official visit of the Sultan of Oman to India in December 2023.
The two sides are expected to comprehensively review cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, energy, defence, security, technology, agriculture, and culture, and exchange views on regional and global issues of common interest.
