Nabih Bari: There is no intention to change the terms of Resolution 1701.
According to Al-Nashrah, Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament “Nabieh Bari” mentioned details of a possible ceasefire between Lebanon and the Zionist regime in an interview with Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper.
Nabih Bari emphasized: Despite Lebanon’s official delay regarding the results, I would like to remind everyone of the generalities we reached with the American envoy Amos Hockstein. These details are related to the ceasefire and the presence of the Lebanese army in the southern regions in preparation for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
The Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament emphasized: These steps are done with the aim of preventing any thoughts unrelated to the talks. There is no intention to change the text of Resolution 1701. What is written is written and we will not change a word of it.
He also denied that Hockstein referred to Resolution 1559 or the replacement of the international emergency forces present south of the Litani River with forces of different nationalities.
The Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament stated that the discussion on all points related to the ceasefire, the presence of the Lebanese Army, and the implementation of Resolution 1701 has been completed and he is waiting for an agreement between Hochstein and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding these issues.
Nabih Bari emphasized: As soon as Hockstein’s agreement with Netanyahu, Lebanon is ready to adhere to the agreements made. The necessary guarantees for the implementation of the agreement must be provided.
Referring to Netanyahu’s rejection of the US and France’s request for a ceasefire, the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament continued: “Now the ball is in the court of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.”
