Nabih Berri: US proposal on ceasefire is unacceptable.
According to Al Jazeera, the speaker of the Lebanese parliament stressed that this issue is unacceptable for Lebanon, stating that the US proposal for a ceasefire requires the formation of a committee consisting of Western countries to monitor the implementation of UN Resolution 1701.
Nabih Berri continued by stating that consultations are currently underway on the mechanism of the alternative plan, adding: The US proposal for a ceasefire does not include any text that gives the Israeli army freedom of action in the event of a suspected threat, as Tel Aviv wants.
He also emphasized that the inclusion of any clause that provides freedom of action for the Israeli army in Lebanon is unacceptable and cannot even be discussed because it is not considered an infringement of Lebanese sovereignty.
The speaker of the Lebanese parliament noted that the atmosphere of the negotiations is positive, but the final result is important.
