According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing Al Jazeera, the Washington Post newspaper, citing American officials, announced that the Trump administration has extended the mission of the Army National Guard in Washington, DC, the country’s capital, until the end of February 2026.
The extension of the mission of the US National Guard forces in Washington, DC has come at a time when the mission was estimated to expire at the end of November 2025.
The deployment of National Guard troops in Washington, D.C. has become a legal battle between the US government and the capital’s attorney general.
The Washington, D.C. attorney general has asked a judge to order the removal of about 2,000 National Guard troops from the city’s streets.
This news comes at a time when the salaries of National Guard members are also at risk due to the ongoing US government shutdown, and this mission costs about $1 million per day.
Trump announced last August that he would deploy the National Guard to Washington, D.C. to help fight crime.
