PNN – Labor Day rallies in the United States turned into demonstrations against President Donald Trump, with thousands of people protesting his policies in various areas, including immigrants and Gaza.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing AFP, a network of left-wing groups organized Labor Day demonstrations and protests against Trump in more than 1,000 locations on Thursday local time.
The demonstrations were held in major cities including Chicago, New York, Seattle and Washington, as well as smaller towns, and May Day rallies from France to the Philippines were also accompanied by anti-Trump protests.
Protesters in Washington have been setting up large tents on the National Mall since the early hours of Thursday morning local time, calling for Trump’s impeachment.
The AFL-CIO, the largest labor union in the United States, also held a demonstration titled “For Workers, Not Billionaires” in Philadelphia, with the participation of left-wing Senator Bernie Sanders.
CNN also reported that protesters demonstrated against Trump’s policies towards immigrants, workers, and students’ freedom of speech.
Protesters in New York chanted “Free Palestine” and called for the release of pro-Palestinian student Mahmoud Khalil. They also held signs that read: Trump, stop the unions.
Protesters held Palestinian flags and speakers at Labor Day rallies spoke against funding weapons and military equipment for the Israeli regime.
They also demonstrated in defense of immigrants, carrying placards that read: People want the deportations to stop.
A member of the Party for Socialism and Freedom among protesters in New York said: Our enemies are not foreign students protesting on campus. Our enemies are not undocumented workers who contribute to our communities and pay taxes and receive no services.
He added: The racist, sexist, anti-worker, xenophobic system is our enemy.
The “50501 Movement,” which stands for 50 protests in 50 states and one movement, was one of the main organizers of the Labor Day protests in the United States.
The movement said in a statement: Trump and his billionaire profiteers are trying to create competition to reduce wages and dignity. But on Labor Day, we fight these actions.
The statement added: We want a country that prioritizes our families over wealth, public schools over private profits, health care over hedge funds, and prosperity over free market policies.
