Naval coalition in Bab al-Mandab; Britain instead of America

Bab al-Mandab

PNN – Britain has increased its political activity towards forming an international coalition in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab, which indicates that it is giving the country a more prominent role in light of the reduced American presence.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, this year’s Munich Security Conference has begun in the Saudi city of Al-Ula with the participation of about 100 political leaders and thinkers in the field of international security.

Discussions on the security of the Red Sea and developments in the Bab al-Mandab Strait were the topics of the first specialized session at the summit, in which Saudi Arabian officials, officials from the Yemeni government in exile, and some Arab countries, including Jordan and Egypt, delivered speeches.

Shai al-Zindani, the foreign minister of the government in exile, spoke at the meeting and, while repeating the accusations against the Sanaa government and Ansar Allah, called for strengthening the international coalition to secure the Red Sea.

Referring to the need to strengthen international measures for what he called the security of the Red Sea, he said: Convening this meeting in Al-Ula demonstrates the international community’s awareness of the magnitude of cross-border security challenges and dangers and the intertwining of regional and international security interests.

The call to strengthen the international presence in the Red Sea was not limited to the Al-Ula summit. Less than a month ago, a meeting was also held regarding the security of Bab al-Mandab at the initiative of the British Embassy in Riyadh.

During that meeting, the focus of the discussions was on strengthening the international presence, or rather, strengthening the Western military presence in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab to confront the Sanaa government.

This is despite the fact that two years ago, the US and Britain formed a maritime coalition called Prosperity Guardian for operations in the Bab al-Mandab region, which also included Australia, Bahrain, Canada, Denmark, New Zealand, Greece, the Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, and Sri Lanka.

The goal of this coalition was to counter the Ansarullah government’s decision to ban the passage of Israeli ships through Bab al-Mandab, but they failed to stop the Sanaa government.

To change Ansarullah’s decision, the US and Britain launched Operation Cruel Knight in March and April, during which they carried out extensive attacks on Yemeni infrastructure. During this operation, three American F-18 fighter jets were shot down as a result of Ansarullah’s missile attacks.

This led the United States to decide to reduce its activities in Bab al-Mandab under pressure from critics, which led to an increase in Britain’s presence in the developments in Bab al-Mandab.

Now, within this framework, the Yemeni government-in-exile and Britain are seeking to attract new actors to form a coalition in the Red Sea to act to aid the Zionist regime.
