According to Sputnik, the officials of the Taliban government announced that the number of victims of the recent earthquake in the northwestern regions of this country has increased to 2,445 people and called for international aid in the field of food and medicine to help the earthquake victims.

Yesterday, Sunday, “Irfanullah Sharaf Rozi”, the representative of the Afghan Red Crescent, announced that the death toll from the earthquake in this country has increased to 2,000 people. A few hours before that, the New York Times quoted the head of the hospital in Herat Province as saying that statistics show that at least 180 people have died and nearly 600 have been injured in two powerful earthquakes on Saturday.

According to this Afghan official, rescue operations are continuing to find people trapped under the rubble, and the possibility of an increase in the number of deaths in this incident is also high.

Moussa Ash’ari, the head of natural disaster management of Herat province, Afghanistan, has announced that 120 people have died in this earthquake and more than 1000 people, including women, children, and the elderly, have been injured.

He also announced that the Taliban administration has declared a state of emergency due to the possibility of more aftershocks and that dozens of villages in Zande Jan district (city) have been completely destroyed and 600 injured people have been pulled out from under the rubble.

According to the US Geological Survey, the strength of these two earthquakes was 6.2 on the Richter scale, and the epicenter was located about 25 miles northwest of Herat city, near the border areas of Iran, and at least seven aftershocks occurred following these two earthquakes. The distance between the two earthquakes was less than two hours.

On Saturday, the local media of Afghanistan reported the occurrence of two earthquakes in the western regions of the country, including the provinces of Herat, Badghis, and Farah. According to reports, this earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers and was also felt in Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Iran’s domestic media also announced that this earthquake was also felt in the city of Mashhad.
