Nebenzia: Israel’s actions violate Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
According to Al Jazeera, the Russian representative at the Security Council meeting to review developments in the Middle East said: We are concerned about the statements of the Israeli authorities about the military planning to stay in Syria for an indefinite period and also the creation of a demilitarized zone in the south of the country.
Vasily Nebenzia added: Regardless of who rules Syria, Israel’s actions are a violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of this country. The Syrian authorities have not shown any hostile intentions against Israel and its security despite Israeli aggression.
He emphasized: We call on Israel to adhere to the agreement to avoid conflict and international law. Instability in Syria undermines security and stability in the Middle East.
The Russian representative also emphasized the country’s position on recognizing Syrian sovereignty over the occupied Golan.
The US deputy representative to the Security Council also said at the meeting: We share Israel’s concern about Syria becoming a base for terrorism.
He added: We must agree that a stable and sovereign Syria is important for our social security. We welcome the Syrian rulers’ emphasis that the country will not be a haven for terrorism.
