Negotiations in the US Senate to sanction The Hague Tribunal were unsuccessful

PNN – The Axios website reported today that the negotiations between the Republican and Democratic senators to sanction the International Criminal Court (ICC) have reached an impasse.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, two well-informed sources told this news website that the negotiations between the senior negotiators of the Senate Democrats and Republicans have not reached a conclusion. Republicans are seeking passage of a House bill that would sanction the International Criminal Court, while Democrats have pushed for a softer approach.

According to Axios, the Republicans have taken advantage of the debates surrounding The Hague Tribunal to highlight the internal differences of the Democrats on the issue of Israel. Some Democrats have expressed support for sanctions against the ICC, but others worry about permanent damage to relations between Washington and The Hague.

The White House has also openly announced that it does not support the sanctions of the International Criminal Court.

Last week, following the issuance of the International Criminal Court’s ruling on the arrest of Israeli officials, the US Congress approved the court’s sanctions plan in full support of Tel Aviv.

The plan to sanction officials of the International Criminal Court in case of investigation or trial of Israeli officials was approved by 247 votes in favor against 155 votes against in the US House and almost all the Republicans present in this meeting voted in favor along with some Democrats.

If the bill passes the Senate and becomes law, the president would be required to impose sanctions against judicial officials who “make any attempt to investigate, arrest, detain, or prosecute any person under the protection of the United States or its allies.”

This action took place after the chief prosecutor of The Hague Tribunal demanded the issuance of an arrest warrant for the Israeli Prime Minister and Minister of War, which angered Tel Aviv’s allies in Washington, DC.
