Netanyahu leads the committee investigating the October 7th defeat, sparking controversy in Israel.

According to the Israeli website Hidbrot, at the height of political tensions over how to investigate the Israeli security failure of October 7 (Operation Al-Aqsa Storm), the Prime Minister’s Office announced that a ministerial commission headed by Benjamin Netanyahu will meet on Monday; a decision that has sparked a wave of opposition because it places full control of the investigation process on the Prime Minister.

According to the announcement, Netanyahu will personally chair the ministerial commission, a group tasked with determining the scope of the powers and duties of the investigation committee investigating the October 7 failure. This decision is contrary to the original plan, which was to have Justice Minister Yario Levin head the group.

The Israeli TV channel 14 reported that Levin withdrew his candidacy, and as a result, the Prime Minister has taken full control of the process.

The letter sent to the ministers states that Monday’s meeting will be devoted to formulating the principles of operation of the investigation committee investigating the October 7 failure. At the same time, the ministerial commission is scheduled to review the bill proposed by Knesset member Ariel Kellner of the Likud party.
