According to the Israeli television channel “Haft”, the details of the cabinet decision to form a committee to investigate the failure of October 7 (Operation Al-Aqsa Storm) by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have sparked outrage among the Zionists. Knesset (parliament) member and Cabinet Secretary Yossi Fox announced the composition of the ministers who will decide on the powers of the investigation committee.
He added that following the cabinet decision, in accordance with the Prime Minister’s amendments on this issue, he has presented the composition of a team of ministers to manage and supervise the investigation committee.
Accordingly, the commission will be headed by Yario Levin, the Minister of Justice of the Israeli regime. The list includes Finance Minister Betzel Smotrich, Public Security Minister Itamar Ben-Giver, Minister of State for Reconstruction of the Northern Settlements of Occupied Palestine Ze’ev Alkin, Agriculture Minister Avi Dichter (and former head of the Shin Bet), Technology Minister Gila Gimliel, Settlement Minister Orit Strok, Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu, and Diaspora Affairs Minister Amichai Shikli.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who had opposed the request of Israelis and opposition parties to form a government review committee under the supervision of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, proposed to the cabinet on Sunday the formation of a review committee under the supervision of the cabinet, which would achieve as much consensus as possible in the Knesset. Netanyahu is said to be trying to bring some Knesset members with him by doing so.
At the same time, Netanyahu announced that a special commission of ministers will be formed, which will be responsible for drafting the terms of reference of the review committee. The scope of its powers, the time periods to be reviewed, and even the questions that the review committee needs to answer will be determined by this ministerial commission. According to Netanyahu, this commission of ministers will be given 45 working days to submit its opinion to the cabinet for approval.
