PNN – The Dutch Foreign Ministry summoned the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the country to protest the seizure of the luggage of one of its diplomats at Imam Khomeini Airport.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing Reuters, the Dutch Foreign Ministry claimed in a statement on Tuesday: Iran caused a diplomatic incident on January 28, 2026 by forcing a Dutch diplomat to hand over his luggage at Tehran airport. This is unacceptable.

The ministry went on to claim that it had repeatedly called on Iran to immediately release the seized goods, but did not provide further details.

According to the Dutch Foreign Ministry, the Iranian ambassador was summoned on Tuesday after Tehran leaked the video of the incident online.

A Dutch diplomat refused to put his luggage through the airport X-ray machine upon entering Iran in February, and his luggage was confiscated.

After this incident, the diplomat abandoned the suitcase and quickly left the country.

After some time, another diplomat contacted Iranian authorities to retrieve the suitcase, and upon opening it, it was revealed that the contents of the luggage were a portable Starlink modem and satellite phones.
