New York Times: Israel used explosives in pagers imported to Lebanon

PNN – The New York Times reported on Wednesday morning that the Israeli regime had placed explosives in the pagers made in Taiwan that had entered Lebanon.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, this newspaper quoted “American officials and other officials who were informed of this operation” and wrote that Lebanon’s Hezbollah had ordered these pagers from the Taiwanese company “Gold Apollo” and that these devices had been tampered with before reaching Lebanon.

According to the report, two officials, who have not been named, said explosives weighing about an ounce or two were planted next to the pager batteries. A switch embedded in it could detonate these explosives remotely.

The New York Times added that at 3:30 p.m. in Lebanon, pagers received a message purporting to be from Hezbollah leadership, two officials said. But this message activated the explosives in the pagers.

The pagers were programmed to beep a few seconds before an explosion, three officials said.

According to the New York Times, independent cyber security experts who have reviewed video footage of the explosions say it is clear that the intensity and speed of the explosions were caused by some kind of explosive material.

Miko Hypponen, an expert at With Secure software company and a cybercrime consultant at Europol, said: These pagers were probably manipulated in a way that caused these types of explosions. The size and power of the explosion show that it was not just the battery.

The New York Times, citing “several officials”, wrote that more than three thousand pagers had been ordered from the Taiwanese company Gold Apollo. The newspaper claimed that Hezbollah had distributed the pagers among its members in Lebanon, and that some of them had reached Hezbollah allies in Iran and Syria, and that the Israeli attack affected the pagers that were turned on and received the messages.

The sabotage of the Zionist regime in communication equipment has left 9 martyrs in Lebanon so far. Following this vandalism, 2,750 people were injured in Lebanon.

Following this action, Hezbollah issued a statement holding Israel responsible for the explosion of the pagers and saying: Israel will definitely retaliate.
