PNN – While the United States continues its military buildup in the Persian Gulf region to counter possible Iranian action, nuclear talks between the two countries continue without any concrete achievements.
The American magazine Newsweek, which is the second-largest American weekly and has been around for eighty years, has published a report examining Trump’s options against Iran and the possible scenario of a “third Gulf War.”
According to the report, US President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly mentioned direct military action if the diplomatic path fails, has stated that any military attack on Iran goes beyond the limited operations last summer.
It is strange that Newsweek, despite its long history in the journalism profession, has violated the basic principle of impartiality and non-bias. Although this publication spoke in this article about a US military attack if negotiations and the diplomatic path fail, it did not mention Trump’s unreasonable conditions, including stopping enrichment and reducing the range of ballistic missiles, which are part of the rights of the Iranian nation and state according to international law, in order to consciously hide the US president’s authoritarian positions that are contrary to international custom.
This American weekly magazine, without condemning Trump’s bullying policies, further noted that the US military attack may include a new wave of targeted attacks, assassinations of senior commanders, or even a long-term military coalition similar to the Third Persian Gulf War.
Continuing its support for the US government’s policy of bullying and violation of international law, the publication wrote that Trump has repeatedly emphasized that he prefers to find a diplomatic solution to this crisis and is seeking a more comprehensive nuclear agreement than the 2015 JCPOA, but the differences between Washington and Tehran remain deep.
Newsweek magazine continued to follow this propaganda line that if Iran does not accept these conditions, Washington will likely resort to decisive military action, including attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities and ballistic missile production and launch centers.
The publication of this material comes at a time when, according to the United Nations Charter and the rules of the International Atomic Energy Agency, attacks on nuclear facilities of NPT member states are prohibited, and on the other hand, a military attack on the territory of independent countries is aggression and illegitimate.
Continuing its harsh and anti-Iranian stance, the publication introduced Iran as having the largest missile and drone arsenal in the region, and interestingly, it introduced Tehran as a serious threat to the United States in the event of a conflict.
The American publication Newsweek, repeating the claims of Israeli war criminal Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, analyzed the range of Iran’s missiles as more than 2,000 kilometers, covering the entire Middle East and parts of southeastern Europe.
The publication adds that Trump and US officials have repeatedly stressed that any new deal would include limits on Iran’s missile capabilities. In contrast, Iran has rejected any negotiations over its missile program and insists on its right to enrich uranium at low levels.
Newsweek also wrote that Richard Goldberg, former director of countering weapons of mass destruction at the US National Security Council, believes that Iran’s missile capability will be one of Trump’s main targets if he decides to take military action.
It is worth recalling that Trump previously carried out his first direct attack on Iran in January 2020 by assassinating General Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force.
