NGO director warns of Gaza humanitarian crisis, 1.5 million homeless.
According to regional media, Amjad Al-Shawa, more than 300,000 tents are needed to meet the minimum needs of the refugees, but only 60,000 tents have entered Gaza so far, a gap that has imposed a heavy burden on homeless families.
He considered the prevention of aid from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to be the biggest current challenge, and said that these restrictions have placed a double burden on local institutions.
The director of the NGO Network emphasized: Immediate priorities include supporting female-headed families, the elderly, people with disabilities and amputees, orphaned children, as well as families living in areas prone to flooding due to rainfall.
Al-Shawa also reported the widespread destruction of the offices of NGO organizations, adding: Many of these institutions are forced to continue their activities from temporary headquarters or even inside tents.
He finally warned about the significant reduction in human and financial resources, saying: “This has directly weakened the ability to respond to the growing needs of the people of Gaza.”
