Trump's threats

PNN – The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement responding to US President Donald Trump’s threats.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing Al Jazeera, the Nigerian government, in response to recent threats from US President Donald Trump, announced that it will continue its efforts to combat extremism. These statements came after Donald Trump accused Nigeria of carrying out threats against Christians and, on this pretext, placed the country on a special watch list.

The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement in this regard, saying: The Federal Government of Nigeria will continue to defend all citizens, regardless of race, creed or religion.

The statement added that Nigeria is a religious country that respects faith, tolerance, diversity and inclusion, in accordance with the charters of the international order.

Trump announced on Friday that he was placing Nigeria, Africa’s largest oil producer and most populous country, on a list of “countries of particular concern” that violate religious freedom, along with countries such as China, Myanmar, North Korea, Russia and Pakistan.

Trump had previously included Nigeria on this list during his first term, but his Democratic successor, Joe Biden, removed it from the list in 2021.

Trump wrote in a post on social media: Christianity in Nigeria is facing an existential threat. Thousands of Christians are being killed, and Islamist extremists are responsible for these killings.

Nigeria is home to more than 200 ethnic groups, including Christianity, Islam, and other traditional religions. Nigeria has long witnessed widespread violence, particularly against Shiites, that has not been opposed by successive US administrations.
