“No” to the referendum on joining the European Union.

“No” to the referendum on joining the European Union.

According to Al Jazeera, the Central Election Commission of Moldova announced that the counting of 98.02% of the votes showed that 50.12% of the voters voted against the country’s accession to the European Union and 49.88% voted for it.

About these results, the pro-Western president of Moldova, Maya Sandu, claimed that some “criminal groups” along with “foreign countries” apparently tried to buy votes for Moldova not to join the European Union.

At the same time as the referendum to join the European Union, which was held in the form of two options “yes” or “no”, the presidential election of Moldova was also held.

The preliminary results of the presidential election, however, show that the pro-Western president of Moldova is ahead of the other candidates. Still, according to reports, it is unlikely that he will be able to win 50% of the votes, and the election will probably be extended to a second round.

The second round of Moldova’s presidential election will be held on November 3.

In this election, 11 candidates are competing for the seat of the President of Moldova. 6 of the candidates are members of the party and 5 are independent.
