Normalization of relations with Israel is not on the agenda at the moment.
According to Al Jazeera, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan said in a speech: The events in northern Gaza can only be described as a form of genocide.
The Saudi Foreign Minister stated: The Palestinian state must be established and the Palestinians’ right to self-determination must be guaranteed. Israel’s attack on Gaza has led to a humanitarian catastrophe. The two-state solution must be implemented and translated into tangible steps. Palestine must become a member of the United Nations as soon as possible.
Bin Farhan continued: Before finding a solution to establish the Palestinian state, the option of normalizing relations with Israel is not on the table. Until we resolve the issue of Palestinian rights and find a way to progress towards the establishment of the Palestinian state, the security of the region will be shaken.
The Saudi Foreign Minister added: The establishment of the Palestinian state is related to the principles of international law, not to recognition by Israel. We have not severed our ties with Lebanon, but resolving the problems and the political process is up to the Lebanese, not Saudi Arabia or foreign powers.
Bin Farhan said: I understand that the ceasefire talks in Gaza have collapsed many times due to new demands from “Israel”. Without a resolution to the Gaza conflict, our region will remain in a vortex of tension.
The Saudi Foreign Minister stated: Iran has informed us that the continued escalation of tensions in the region is not in Tehran’s interest. I have explained to my Iranian counterparts the importance of preventing any further tension in the region.
Bin Farhan continued: Relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran are on the right track, but they are complicated due to the situation in the region. Saudi Arabia has not held any military exercises with Iran.
The Saudi Foreign Minister said: The only way to reduce tensions in the region is for everyone to make a clear decision that escalating tensions is dangerous for all parties. Israel must reduce tensions, and the international community must focus its efforts on reducing tensions on all fronts.
Bin Farhan said: “The defense cooperation agreement with the United States is a complex issue. Some of the bilateral agreements that Saudi Arabia hopes to sign with the United States are not related to normalizing relations with Israel.”
