Norway’s agreement to sell weapons directly to Ukraine.
The Norwegian government announced on the first day of 2024 that it would sell weapons directly to Ukraine to counter the Russian army.

Norway announced a change in its policy on the first day of 2024, allowing direct sales of weapons and military products to Ukraine to counter Russian armed forces. According to sources, Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide emphasized the importance of supporting Ukraine for the security of Norway and Europe. He stated, “In the extraordinary security conditions resulting from the war in Russia, it is important to continue supporting Ukraine. Supporting Ukraine is important for the security of Norway and Europe.” Following Russia’s conflict with Ukraine, Western countries have condemned Moscow and intensified economic pressures, putting comprehensive political, financial, and arms support for Kyiv on the agenda. Russian officials have emphasized that the decision to provide weapons to Kyiv only intensifies the war and prolongs Russia’s special military operations. Norwegian Defense Minister Bjorn Arild Gram also said, “This change means that we, along with our allies, protect Norway’s fundamental defense and security interests.” The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that export permits for weapons will be heavily evaluated. The UK Ministry of Defense recently announced that, along with Norway, it will provide a powerful naval coalition to enhance Ukraine’s capabilities at sea. Earlier, the Norwegian government sent 160 anti-tank missiles “Hellfire” along with launchers and their guidance units to Ukraine.
