PNN – While congratulating the Lebanese people for electing a new president, the head of the Iraqi government of law coalition Nouri al-Maliki emphasized Iraq’s support for this country.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing the official Iraqi news agency (WAA), Nouri al-Maliki, the head of the Iraqi Government of Law Coalition, congratulated the nation of the country on the election of Joseph Aoun as the new president of Lebanon.
He expressed his hope that during Aoun’s presidency, Lebanon will witness economic stability and prosperity, rebuild the ruins of the cruel war, strengthen national unity with the cooperation of all political currents, and play its regional role in the region.

Al-Maliki added: Iraq has always been and will be by the side of the Lebanese nation until this country recovers its situation and regains its occupied lands in the south for which thousands of innocent martyrs have been sacrificed.
The Lebanese Parliament elected Joseph Aoun, the commander of the army of this country, as the 14th President of the Republic of Lebanon to end the vacancy of this post for more than 2 years.
General Joseph Aoun was elected as the President of Lebanon with 99 votes in favor in the second round of voting.
This is the fifth time in the history of Lebanon that an army commander of this country has reached the position of president.
